Objectives & Functions
The nature of the Parliamentary Affairs Department differs from that of other ministerial departments. The department is primarily responsible for the following functions:

To obtain orders from the Hon’ble Governor for summoning and proroguing the sessions of the Maharashtra Legislature.

To prepare the draft of the Hon’ble Governor’s address to be delivered at the commencement of the first session of each year and at the commencement of the first session after each general election to the Legislative Assembly.

To obtain orders from the Hon’ble Governor for allotment of day for presenting the budget, supplementary demands and additional expenditure demands in both Houses of the Maharashtra Legislature.

To coordinate between the Legislature Secretariat and ministerial departments regarding legislative sessions.

To propose amendments to Acts related to the salaries and allowances of the Hon’ble Presiding Officers, Ministers, Leaders of the Opposition and Members of the Legislature.

To forward the assurances given by the Government in the legislature house during legislative sessions, as finalized by the Legislature Secretariat, to the concerned ministerial departments for compliance and to place the compliance reports received from these departments before the House in the subsequent session.
